October Conferences Highlight Quality, Housing/Assisted Living/Home Care

AL Notices to OOLTC – Disclosure of Special Care Status

Assisted living providers must send a Disclosure of Special Care Status to the Office of Ombudsman for Long-term Care when applicable.

The requirement is not new. However, it is an excellent time to update and send this disclosure if it applies to your setting. The Disclosure of Special Care Status is required of any assisted living with dementia care setting. 

UDALSA Clarifications for Assisted Living

An essential requirement of assisted living is the provision of a Uniform Disclosure of Assisted Living Services and Amenities (UDALSA). The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has acknowledged that there can be more than one UDALSA per facility if there are varying services in different sections of the building.

Required Notices and Process to Submit to OOLTC under AL Law

Under the new assisted living (AL) law, providers must submit certain notices to the Office of Ombudsman for Long-Term Care (OOLTC). A Cover Sheet for AL Notice to OOLTC has been developed to accompany every notice to OOLTC. Notices must be submitted to the fax number 651-431-7452 or emailed to ALnotices.OOLTC@state.mn.us. Do not send the notices to the Regional Ombudsman. For any questions about this cover sheet, please email ALnotices.OOLTC@state.mn.us.

Assisted Living Facilities Licensed

The Minnesota Department of Health has issued over 1,700 assisted living facility or assisted living facility with dementia care licenses as of Friday afternoon. For the remaining 286 conversion applicants who are waiting for background checks or who have final documents to submit, MDH has issued a conditional license.

BELTSS Licenses Over 1600 LALDs

The Minnesota Board of Executives for Long-term Services and Supports (BELTSS) received over 2,995 applications before June 30 and over 1,600 Licensed Assisted Living Directors (LALDs) were fully licensed as of July 26.

Registration Open for MHCEA Virtual Spring Conference

Registration is now open for the Minnesota Healthcare Engineers Association (MHCEA) 2021 Spring Conference on May 27-28.

This year’s event will be virtual given the on-going impact of COVID-19. It features two half days of educational opportunities on regulatory compliance, maintenance, and safety issues, and sponsors will build virtual exhibit booth pages with information, photos and videos for you attendees to review and connect with them within the virtual platform.

MDH Publishes Updated Activities and Dining Guidance for Assisted Living Settings

Yesterday, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) published updated guidance which allows for more flexibility for dining and guidance in assisted living settings.

Activities and meals are a significant factor in combating social isolation and bringing a sense of normalcy and stability to our resident’s lives.

Social Isolation Grant Funding Opportunity Available for Home Care and Assisted Living

The application is now available to apply for grants made available through the Home Care Provider Advisory Council. The Council has been given approval by the Commissioner of Health to provide funding to home care providers and other entities to mitigate social isolation of vulnerable adults residing in home care provider settings including assisted living settings.
